Abstract:

Carbon dioxide (CO2) adsorption on unfunctionalized and amino-functionalized SBA-3 materials are investigated and compared in this study. The synthesized materials are characterized by various techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET) method, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM).The isotherms of these materials have been measured using volumetric method at 298 K up to 5 bar. The adsorption capacity of CO2 by mesoporous silica was enhanced through functionalization with amine groups. It is observed that the pentaethylene hexamine functionalized SBA-3 (SBA-3/PEHA) shows a higher adsorption capacity towards CO2 compared to other adsorbents.

Adsorption of carbon dioxide from gas streams via mesoporous spherical-silica particles.

A relatively new mesoporous silica sorbent for environmental protection applications (i.e., mesoporous spherical-silica particles [MSPs]), was modified by N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ethylenediamine (EDA) solution and was tested for its potential in the separation of carbon dioxide (CO2) from flue gas. The CO2 adsorption capacity of MSP and MSP (EDA) increased with temperature from 20 to 60 de...

PNiPAM-FUNCTIONALIZED MESOPOROUS CARBON FOR THE ADSORPTION OF VITAMIN B2

The present research reports the synthesis of poly-N-isopropylacrylamide / mesoporous carbon composites, prepared by radical polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide inside mesoporous carbon pores functionalized with carboxylic groups. The deposition of poly-N-isopropylacrylamide on mesoporous carbon was confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy, TEM, N2-sorption measurements. The mesoporous carbon materi...

Insight into the adsorption of tetracycline onto amino and amino-Fe3+ gunctionalized mesoporous silica: Effect of functionalized groups.

In order to study the influences of functionalized groups onto the adsorption of tetracycline, we prepared a series of amino and amino-Fe3+ complex mesoporous silica adsorbents with diverse content of amino and Fe3+ groups (named N,N-SBA15 and Fe-N,N-SBA15). The resulting mesoporous silica adsorbents were fully characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrom...

Carbon dioxide capture using amine functionalized silica gel

Commercially available silica gel is chemically modified for carbon dioxide capture. Calcinated silica gel of certain particle size functionalized with amine using two different methods, wet impregnation and grafting via silane chemistry has been employed as a porous media. The prepared material is characterized by Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive anal...

Aqueous heavy metals removal by adsorption on amine-functionalized mesoporous silica.

Amino functional mesoporous silica SBA-15 materials have been prepared to develop efficient adsorbents of heavy metals in wastewater. Functionalization with amino groups has been carried out by using two independent methods, grafting and co-condensation. Three organic moieties have been selected to incorporate the active amino sites: aminopropyl (H(2)N-(CH(2))(3)-), [2-aminoethylamino]-propyl (...

Adsorption of n-pentane on mesoporous silica and adsorbent deformation.

Development of quantitative theory of adsorption-induced deformation is important, e.g., for enhanced coalbed methane recovery by CO2 injection. It is also promising for the interpretation of experimental measurements of elastic properties of porous solids. We study deformation of mesoporous silica by n-pentane adsorption. The shape of experimental strain isotherms for this system differs from ...
